Mr. Robert David “Rob” Clark, III, age 69, of Birmingham and formerly of Lanett, died on Wednesday, March 15th, 2017 at the Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, after a short illness.

Mr. Clark is survived by two brothers, Wayne Clark and Jeff Clark; a sister, Melanie Key, all of Lanett; a son, Wade (Dacia) Clark of West Point, GA.; and four grandchildren, Preston Queen, Tiffani Webb, Baylie Clark, and Camryn Clark, all of West Point, GA.

Mr. Clark was born on April 6, 1947 in West Point, GA.  He was the son of the late Robert D. Clark, Jr. and Earnestine Clark.  He was a 1965 graduate of Lanett High School and attended Auburn University.  When he was a young man, he worked as a draftsman for the Batson-Cook Company in West Point and was later a machine designer for the Southwire Corporation in Carrollton, GA.  Some of his designs hold company patents.

Mr. Clark battled personal issues for much of his adult life, but always made friends with his kindness and friendly manner towards others.  He loved children (especially those grandkids!) and animals.  Though hardly a man of wealth, he made it a priority to donate to such organizations as Feed the Children and the World Wildlife Federation.

Robert’s family want to thank his friends for always asking about him and telling us how fond they were of him.  We feel that he earned a special place in heaven for the devotion he had for his mother during her declining years.  Mr. Clark loved going for long rides in the country with his mom and two brothers.  He loved going to nearby West Point Lake with them and watching the ducks and geese on the water and catching sight of an occasional osprey or eagle winging their way along the river channel.

Mr. Clark spent his final days at the Community One group home in Birmingham.  On warm, sunny days he loved sitting in his favorite chair out back, watching the birds and making friends with the neighborhood cats.
