Leahmon P. McElveen, Jr., age 83, and a resident of Diamondhead, MS, died on July 11 2009, at 3:30 PM.

“Mac” McElveen was born in New Orleans and lived on the Coast since 1996. He graduated from Delgado Community College in New Orleans; completed Pre-Law at Loyola University, and earned a Degree in Criminal Justice. He also completed continuing education studies at Notre Dame University and New York Institute of Technology.

In WWII he joined the U.S. Merchant Marine and saw enemy action in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean. He was discharged from the Merchant Marine in November, 1943 and joined the U. S. Marine Corps. He was seriously wounded in the invasion of Iwo Jima and was honorably discharged in October 1945 at the age of 19.

He was a former Vice President of Friedrich Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Co., Inc. of San Antonio, TX, and Executive Vice President of Classic Fans, Inc. of De Soto, TX. He was a Manufacturers’ Representative and owner of McElveen & Associates, Inc. Mac was also the first Editor of the HVAC & Refrigerator Insider in LA & MS. His sales, marketing and management experience and skills were developed and honed earlier when he worked for Reed Unit-Fans, Inc, of New Orleans; Scott- Atwater Outboard Motor Co. in Minneapolis; and Polaroid Corporation in Cambridge.

Mac’s avocation was law enforcement.

Mac was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Camille J. Capponi McElveen, and his loving parents Emma Cordelia Beatty McElveen .and Leahmon P. McElveen. He is survived by his devoted daughters and sons in law, Darryl G (Larry) Borne of Metairie; Donna R (Steve) Cefalu of Lacombe; and Denise A (Marcel) Courtiade of Waveland, and six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
