JAMES AUGUSTUS (Gut) BROOKS entered into the lives of James Monroe Brooks and Allean Ellen Baldwin Brooks, both deceased, on December 7, 1936 in Chatham County. He departed from this life to his eternal reward on January 8, 2021.
James received his education at the former Chatham High School in Siler City, NC. He worked at Wyndham-Hunt Construction in Asheboro, NC. He later worked as a supervisor at Liberty Chair, Liberty, NC and Boling Chair, Siler City, NC until his retirement.
James professed hope in Christ at an early age and joined Evans Chapel AME Zion Church in Siler City, NC but later in life joined Olivers Chapel AME Zion Church of Staley, NC. He was a faithful member and held many past/present duties such as Chairman of the Trustee Board, Steward Board Chairman, Church School Superintendent and Lay Council President and many other duties.
James was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Sue E. Staley Brooks; one daughter, Darlene V. Brooks; one son, Herman E. Staley; two brothers, Robert L. Brooks and Alfred Brooks; two sisters, Nina Mae Brooks Staley and Geneva Dark; and one step-father, Gaither Emerson, Sr.
James’ precious memories will be cherished by: one daughter, Ava Staley Williams (Jessie) of Siler City, NC; three sons, Harold Staley of Staley, NC, James Kerry Brooks (Sarah )of Greensboro, NC and Kelly L. Brooks (Rhonda) of Liberty, NC; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Rev. Freeman Brooks (Susan) of Sanford, NC, Howard Brooks (Mary) of Asheboro, NC, Elder Gaither Ray Emerson (Gail) of Liberty, NC; five sisters, Clementine Farrar of Staley, NC, Geraldine Gray of Siler City, NC, Vera Andrews (Joe) of Ramseur, NC, Pauline Brooks of New York, Janice Lineberry (Michael) of Liberty, NC; one sister-in-law, Doris Wiley (Clem) of Siler City, NC; one brother-in-law, Thurman Staley (Ruby) of Siler City, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith, henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give me at that day.
