Irwin Joseph Messonnier passed away on Tuesday, November 10 quietly at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in New Orleans on July 10, 1919 to the late Marcel J. Messonnier and Carmen Desforges Messonnier. Irwin is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary Anna McCune Messonnier and their six children, Peggy Bolton ( John), Michael Messonnier (Mary Anne), Jerry Messonnier (Gwendolyn), Mamae Ely (Ross), Tom Messonnier (Pam), and Stephen Messonnier (Michelle). He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceeded in death by his brother Marcel J. Messonnier and his sister Yvonne Messonnier Laudumiey.

Mr. Messonnier was a veteran of the United States Navy and served in World War II. He retired after a long career as an accountant with Chevron and Shell Oil Companies. He was a St. Francis Cabrini parishioner for 40 years until Hurricane Katrina devastated his home and neighborhood. He served on the Parish Council and was a fixture at all of the events and activities that involved his children.
