Harley Otto Hugh Pretty, age 70 of Wallingford and formerly of Milford, beloved husband to Ellen Shatkus Pretty, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Masonicare in Wallingford. Born in Long Branch, NJ on July 7, 1941. he was the son of the late John and Wealthy Staufacher Pretty. Harley was a district manager for Shoprite and proprietor of Glennfood Shop Deli, and, prior to his retirement in 2006, he was the custodian for Platt Tech Vocational HS in Milford. He dedicated a good portion of his adult life to the Pyramid Shriners Foundation, where, as a Pryamid Recorder, he was responsible for the transportation unit for the Shriner Burn Hospital in Springfield, MA. He was fondly known as “Hoppy the Klown” and won multiple awards throughout the East Coast. Harley also taught a class at Klown College in MA, passing on his love of making people smile and laugh. In addition to being a member of the Pyramid Shriners #9 Klown Unit in Milford, he was a past Master of the Cosmopolitan Lodge #125 in New Haven, and member of the Grotto Lodge, Ashlar 332 and the Wooster Lodge #79. He was a die-hard NY Yankee fan. Harley will be mostly remembered for the love and devotion that he had for his children and grandchildren and he will be greatly missed.
In addition to his wife, Ellen of 49 years, he is survived by his sons, Harley J. and his wife Elisabeth of Hamden, John W. and his wife Lori and Jeffrey J. and his wife Veronica all of Milford and Brian W. and his wife Aine of North Haven; his cherished grandchildren, Jenny, Harley, Trevor, Aisling and Mairead and many other loving family and friends.
