Mr. Gerald Isidore Sigman, age 71, of Valley, Alabama, passed away Thursday, February 18th, 2021, at EAMC Opelika.
Mr. Sigman is survived by his wife Sheila Shaw Sigman; daughters Tamara Sigman and Joanna Sigman Taylor (Chase); brother, Jack T. Kennedy (Jessie) and many other loving members of his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents David and Dorothy Sigman, and sister, Anita Davis.
Gerald was born in Langdale, Alabama on November 23rd, 1949. He graduated from Hoboken High School in 1967. Gerald had many jobs in his life, beginning with sweeping the floor of a coat factory in Hoboken at the age of 11. He worked as a grocery store delivery man, managed a retail store, and delivered telegrams for Western Union in New York City. Gerald joined the United States Navy after high school. He was deployed in the Philippines and southeastern Asia on the USS Schofield as a radioman. After serving in the Navy, he began a 40-year career in banking and finance. In addition to banking, he managed rental properties with family and enjoyed renovating houses. He eventually retired from American General Finance as a District Manager.
Gerald was very active in the Valley area community. He served on the Board of Goodwill Industries and a local board of Realtors. He was a Financial Literacy Volunteer with Junior Achievement. Gerald was the Vice President of the Bob Harding Shawmut Elementary School PTO and was active in several other PTOs of Chambers County Schools. He participated in the Valley Pride Band Boosters and also drove the band bus.
