Elmore Frederick Ruck, age 88, passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2010, in Metairie, Louisiana.
He is the beloved husband of the late Betty Haydel Ruck. He is survived by 2 children and their spouses: Cheryl Ruck Schaneville (husband, Don) and David Elmore Ruck (wife, Kathy); 3 grandchildren: Steven Michael Schaneville (wife, Jaimi), Debra Schaneville Underwood (husband, Paul), and Kenneth Scott Schaneville (wife, Courtney); 3 great-grandchildren: Nicholas David Underwood, James Richard Underwood, and Zachary Hayden Schaneville. He was predeceased by 2 brothers: Jefferson Norris G. Ruck and Richard Sterling Ruck; his mother: Elnora Brown Ruck; and his father: Jefferson Norris Ruck Jr.
Elmore was born on February 21, 1922, in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1942, he joined the United States Army Air Corps. He became a 1st Lieutenant and served overseas as a C-47 pilot in the European Theater. Upon discharge from the Corps in 1946, he entered Tulane University and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for the U.S. Navy at Avondale Shipyards and later for NASA as an aerospace engineer. He enjoyed retirement, which began July 4, 1981 by traveling to all 50 states and many countries.
