Carl defined the best in what it meant to be part of the “hospitality” industry. His success was borne out of a true love of his family, friends, and employees. This in turn made him a noticeably generous host.

The pure volume of the business–the fact that almost every New Orleanian has indeed graced the inside of Fat Harry’s or enjoyed a good meal at West End–shows the scope and magnitude of his entire body of his life’s work. In doing so, he changed the face of Uptown, Lakeview and the city at large, making these areas of our city never the same again. A significant many will forever be indebted.

A grateful citizen, Carl was especially proud and happy to give back to the city he loved so much and be one of the first to re-establish his business after Katrina, feeding countless First Responders and volunteers for weeks after the storm.

The family would like to thank those who cared for him at Ochsner Hospital throughout his illness.
