Bruce was born October 19, 1949 in Kane, Pennsylvania, son of the late Paul and Alverda (Carbaugh) McClain. In 1962 the family moved to Waterbury, he attended local schools and was a graduate of Wilby High School. Class of 1968. He had been employed as a tool setter, having worked for Duracell in Waterbury and then the Siemon Company in Watertown.
