Barron V. Scott, 67, loving husband and father, departed from us on March 13, 2022, in Durham, North Carolina surrounded by his loved ones.

Barron, lovingly known as “Scotty”, was born in New Bern, North Carolina to Gracie Mae Banks and Smith Scott II on October 1, 1954. He graduated from J.T. Barber High School in June of 1969, afterwards attending North Carolina Central University, where he became a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. While attending college, Barron met the love of his life, Janice Scott. They married on June 12, 1982 and went on to build a wonderful life and family together in Durham. Professionally, Barron worked many years at Leggett & Myer Tobacco Company, before serving with the Durham County Sherriff’s Department as a corrections officer. He worked for the department for 10 years, eventually retiring to dedicate his time and attention to those he loved. If you knew Scotty, you know that he absolutely loved to read, collect comic books, and spend time with his family and their beloved pets. He adored his family. Scotty was also a great friend to many, as he never knew a stranger. He always had a listening ear and provided wise counsel to all who needed it – no matter your circumstance or situation. He always gave of himself before he gave to himself.

Barron is preceded in death by his grandmother (Rosa Lee Brown), his mother (Gracie M. Banks), his fathers (Smith Scott and James Banks) and his brother (Smith “Tony” Scott).

Barron is survived by his devoted and loving wife (Janice Scott), his daughter (Olivia Scott), his son (Aaron Scott), his siblings (Shenetta N. Scott, Gerald D. Scott, Aquanetta J. Copper, and Cecedrick R. Scott), and a host of family and friends.

The family of Barron V. Scott want to extend our sincere thanks for your prayers, thoughts, and support during this immensely difficult time. We are grateful for family and friends like you.
