Mr. Alfredrick “Maurice” Horton entered into this on September 10th, 1957 to the late Wilbert and Margie Monroe Bruton. Later, he was adopted by his uncle and aunt, John Harvey and Ola B. Monroe Horton. Maurice has pushed through the obstacles of life and maintained his understanding that God has the final say. He joined Macedonia AME Zion Church at an early age and remained a member until his health declined. If you never had the chance to hear him sing, his voice would bellow waves of vibrations off the church walls as he sang the words with much power and submission, “Precious lord take my hand, lead me home, let me stand. I am tired, I am weak, I am worn. Through the storm, through the light, lead me on to the light. Take my hand, precious Lord and lead me home.” After various health complications, God transitioned Maurice home so that he can now rest peacefully.

Maurice received his education from J.S. Waters Elementary and Chatham Central High School.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ola B. Horton, his biological parents; Wilbert Bruton and Margie M. Bruton; Sisters Brenda (Sissy) Walters; two brothers, Edward B. Currie III and Herman Walters.

He leaves to cherish his memory; one sister, Gena Currie Kelly of Sanford NC; seven brothers, James Stephen Horton (Cynthia) of Charlotte NC, Billy (Dana) Bruton of Cameron NC, Gary (Myra) McIntyre of Dallas TX, Charles Currie Sharpless of Sanford NC, Wilbert (Deborah) Bruton of Cameron NC, and James “Bunny” Walters (Pam) of Sanford NC; ten nephews, thirteen nieces, thirty-one great nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins, family, and friends.
