     Monte Leroy Arterburn, 80, a long-time resident of Wendell passed away peacefully in Twin Falls on April 8, 2020. 

     Monte Leroy Arterburn was born July 15, 1939 in Boise, Idaho to John and Arzena Spangler Arterburn.  He was raised in Ely, Nevada.

     At 17, Monte enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era attaining the rank of E-4.  He was stationed in Fort Douglas, UT, Fort Ord, CA, Fort Hood, TX, and Thailand. He was proficient as a marksman in Rifle and Carbine. He trained as the Military Police and was assigned to the 809th Engineer Battalion.

     Monte married Norma Iris Vegas on Dec. 23, 1960.  They were blessed by four children: Iris Lyn, Wayne Allen, Annette Yvonne & Angela Norene.  They divorced in Nov.1970.  Monte later married Vella Dee Griggs. 

     Monte was a roofer by trade.  Monte was a very active member in Veterans Organizations. He was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion. He held many positions in the VFW like Senior Vice Commander of Post #2974.  In May 2006, he was chosen to represent Idaho in Washington, D.C.  He was very active in Alcoholics Anonymous and attained 33 years of sobriety.  He sponsored many people in the program and credited Alcoholics Anonymous to saving his life.  

     Monte is survived by: his sister – Pat Ledgerwood of Wendell; his son – Wayne Arterburn of Albuquerque, NM; his daughters – Angela (Ray) Clarke of Cottage Grove, OR, Monica Misener of Yreka, CA, and Cindy (Sam) Day of Twin Falls, ID; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews.

     Monte was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers – Ellis and Audel; wife – Dee; daughters – Annette and Iris.
