Monte was born September 18, 1948, in Kansas City, Missouri, and made his home in Hobbs at 6 days old. He passed from this life December 16, 2009, in Del Rio, Texas.

Monte worked in the oilfield in the Hobbs area until the early 1990s, then moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico, where he lived and owned Halfway Watering Hole until 2006. He then retired in Del Rio, Texas, where he most enjoyed fishing and deer watching.

Cook is survived by his father, Jackson Lynn Cook of Hobbs; a daughter Tammi Collins and husband Phil of Hobbs, a son Jeremy Cook and wife Charla of Hobbs; three grandsons, Todd, Nathan and Shawn Collins and one granddaughter, Joanna Cook, all of Hobbs.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Joan Harris.
