Monnie H. Powell, 86, of Vandalia, died Thursday, June 23, 2011 in Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation in South Bend, Indiana. He was born August 2, 1924 in Corydon, Kentucky to Henry and Anna (Arnett) Powell. He was a carpenter in the Chicago area before moving to Vandalia in the early 70’s and began farming. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Niles and the William E. Lozier VFW Post #10704, Cassopolis.
Monnie is survived by his wife Eloise (Fowler) Powell, Vandalia; and two granddaughters, Michelle (Tony) Green, Granger, Indiana, and Lisa (Ralph) Stephens, South Bend, Indiana; and one great granddaughter, Taletha Andrews, Granger; niece Dolores Yancey and family, Austin, Texas; first cousins, Sylvia Williamson and Cortez Oliver, both of Evansville, Indiana, Billie Ann Forbes, Rose Mays, Robert Lee Chambers and Donnie Hawkins, all of Indianapolis, Indiana, as well as great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Vivian Lofton, and. three brothers, Conklin Powell and George Powell and Emerson Powell.
