Molly Arnold Guhl, age 97, of Shalimar, Fla., passed away peacefully Sunday, July 28 at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.

Molly, lovingly known as “Nana” to her loved ones, grew up in Germany and moved to Chicago during WWII at the age of twenty. Her frugal nature and survival instincts carried her through a time of War and remained with her throughout her long life.

Her strong work ethic and quick wit helped her climb the ranks in the hotel and restaurant industry serving the patrons of the Palmer House in Chicago and later Mitch’s Steak House in Miami Beach for forty-years.

Molly’s dedication and always taking pride in her work put her son Robert “Bob” Arnold through college and ultimately set the example for sacrifice and hard work for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who followed.

Nana’s family and friends will always remember the warmth and love she shared through cooking for them. Family favorites, though too numerous to name, included servings of lasagna, homemade wanton soup, cheesecake, eggplant parmesan, fried shrimp, pork fried rice and beef stew, as well as delicious cookies for her great-grandchildren – always made from scratch, always made with love.

When her son married Myralyn she invited her to come stay with her for a few weeks to teach her how to cook and share her faith.

Nana would later move to Shalimar, Fla. where she lived just seven houses away from her son where she remained into her late nineties, still mowing her own yard until she was 89, keeping close watch over the family and feeding them all with her faith, food, great sense of humor and love.

Molly “Nana” Arnold will be missed forever, but her legacy lives on through the imprint she’s left on all of our hearts. There will never be another Nana.

Molly is survived by her only son Robert Arnold and daughter-in-law Myralyn Arnold longtime residents of Shalimar, Fla., who currently reside in Arlington, Va., grandson: Robert Arnold Jr. and daughter-in-law Lisa, great-grandchildren: Jaxson, Ainsley and Vaughn of Delray Beach, Fla., grandson: Trevor Arnold and daughter-in-law Maranda and great-grandson Zane of Orlando, Fla., granddaughter: Molly Arnold of Shalimar, Fla., and supportive friends Kevin Butchino of Shalimar, Fla., and Matilda Rudolph of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

Family residing in Germany include: Anna Hammer; Luitgart Spannheimer; Rose Willy Grumpel; Bettina Ranier and Sonja Nowak.

Preceded in death by her husband Adolf Guhl of Ohio.
