Salem – Mildred Viola McLaughlin, age 97, of Salem, died Tuesday morning, May 30, 2017 at the Brookdale Senior Living in Salem. She was born January 2, 1920 in Harrison County, the daughter of the late Clyde O. and Icie (Thompson) Hendershot.
Mildred was a 1938 graduate of Adena High School, a graduate of both the Cleveland Bible College (now Malone College) and Youngstown University and was a former member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Salem and Columbiana Nazarene Church. She taught 2nd grade at the McKinley and Buckeye Schools in Salem, retiring in 1980.
Her husband, James A. McLaughlin, whom she married June 22, 1946, preceded her in death on Oct. 20, 2004.
Survivors include three daughters, Lois (John) Barnes and Beth (Charles) Cowgill both of Kankakee, IL, and Janine (Darrell) DuVall, of New Waterford, OH; a sister, Martha Miller of Glendale, AZ; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were three brothers, Lawrence, John and Clyde Hendershot; a sister, Sarah Dowdle; and a daughter, Gayle Arlene McLaughlin.
