Mildred Richardson Hagie , 100
Troy Mildred Richardson Hagie , 100, died Thursday, June 17, 2004 at the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center Troy.
Born in Winfield, KS, she was the daughter of the late John Richardson and Mary (Anson) Richardson and wife of the late John S. Hagie.
She had resided in Troy for 75 years and was a graduate of Princeton High School in Illinois.
Mrs. Hagie was formerly a seamstress for Falcon Waist Company in Troy, New York during the depression. Later she became bookkeeper for Hagie Sales and Service in Troy. She and her husband, John S. Hagie, operated the garage for fifty years. The garage started during the depression. Hagie Sales and Service, at one time, sold Willy’s cars and Jeeps during the late1940’s and early 1950’s. In the mid to late 1960’s, the garage sold Honda Motorcycles.
The Hagie’s were avid fliers and owned four planes over a span of fifty years. Their flights included trips to Cuba (before Castro), California, Nantucket, and Block Island. They participated in the Civil Defense program during World War II and gave airplane rides to the public to raise war bonds.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty Jean MacKenzie of Berkeley Heights, NJ and three grandchildren, Hunter K. Birckhead of Warren, N.J., James J. Birckhead of Great Falls, MT and Victor MacKenzie of Austin, Texas. She was predeceased by several brothers and sisters, Alpha, Claude, Eva, Wayne and Beth.
