Millie was born and raised in the Westport neighborhood of Baltimore City, to Arthur G. and Emma (Nordt) Murphy. In 1948, she married her true love, Russell Berger In 1956, they moved to Glen Burnie MD, where they raised their daughters. She was a licensed beautician for 50 years.
She took up oil painting during the three years she cared for her daughter Cindy, who died of Multiple Myeloma in 1990. Millie’s fondest memories were of family summer vacations on the beach in Ocean City. She loved animals, and donated to various animal rescue organizations and enjoyed spoiling her German Shepherd Elke.
Millie had a generous heart and would do anything for anybody. She believed it was important to visit and/or send cards to the sick and elderly in nursing homes or hospitals, and was known to take casseroles or homemade soup to shut-ins.
After Russell’s death, she lived with her daughter Chris before moving to Lorien in Taneytown. She was predeceased by siblings Alice Gross, Margaret Berger, Emma Moeller, Gorman Murphy and “Bud” Murphy, and her German Shepherd Elke. She is survived by her daughter Chris Lienesch, son-in-law Gary, her granddog Gracie, nieces and nephews.
The family thanks the staff of Lorien Taneytown, for providing exceptional care during her last years, and also thank BridgingLife (formerly Carroll Hospice) for their support.
