Mildred L. (Knecht) Guenther, 101 years of age, of Beatrice, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017 at the Homestead House in Beatrice. She was born on August 2, 1915 in Spencer to Theodore and Matilda (Woidneck) Knecht. When she was 7, she moved to Lincoln with her mother and brother Raymond. Mildred graduated from Lincoln High School in 1933, attended the University of Nebraska for 2 ½ years and received her certificate to teach Kindergarten through 8th grade. She married Lester Guenther on August 27, 1938 in Lincoln and they made their home in Wymore until moving to Beatrice in 1941. Mildred was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as secretary/treasurer, on church council, as an elder, Sunday School teacher, volunteer for Vacation Bible School, president of the Presbyterian Women and a Life Member of the PTA. She enjoyed gardening, wall papering, upholstery, playing cards, knitting, needle work, cooking, keeping a full cookie can at all times for the grandkids, babysitting grandchildren and watching them grow and have their own families.

Mildred is survived by 2 daughters, Linda (Marvin) Schuerman of DeWitt, Sue Ann (Roger) McMillan of Clatonia; 5 grandchildren, Dena (Jeremy) Sher of Washington, D.C., Becky (Howard) Choi of Plano, Texas, Nathan (Jennifer) Spilker of Raleigh, North Carolina, Jane (Greg Robb) Schuerman of Doniphan, John Schuerman of Clatonia; and great grandchildren, Haley, Avery and Ashley Robb, Dean and Henry Spilker, Greta Choi and Benjamin and Rebecca Sher. She was preceded in death by her parents (she was 11 months when her father passed); husband Lester on September 19, 1993; son-in-law, Dean Spilker; and brothers, Raymond and Eldon Knecht.
