Mildred Ann Allen, 70, died Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital in Louisville following a long and valiant battle against cancer. A native of Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Artie Smith and James R. Edmonson. She attended High Street High School in Shelbyville and later completed her GED. She retired following 36 years’ service at Black & Decker (formerly American Emblem), where she was an inspector on the line. She joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Waddy as a young girl and attended New Mt. Zion Baptist Church after that church relocated to Shelbyville. She was currently a member of New Covenant Church.
In addition to her parents, one daughter, Carol Raye Blackburn and three brothers, William “Nick” Davis, Fred Davis and Tommy Dorsey, preceded her in death.
Survivors include four sons, James Bernard Allen (Cristine), Donald Ray Allen (Debra Webster), Phillip Wayne Allen and Patrick Eugene Allen (Devette Hereford); one sister, Dorothy Farris; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
