Mildred Agnes Pitney (Aunt Millie), 88, of Cromwell, passed away on September 17th at Cromwell Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center with her family close by. Millie was born in New Britain on April 10, 1921 where she resided until moving to Reilly Manor in Cromwell 14 years ago. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (Flaherty) Pitney. Millie worked all of her adult life at New Britain Machine Company (Litton Industries). After her retirement in 1984, she volunteered at a local animal shelter, spent many hours crocheting, reading and tending to her garden, and was very involved in the lives of her niece and nephews who loved her dearly. She was the sweetest soul, with a sharp sense of humor, and kindness toward everyone. She passed on her sense of adventure, a love of nature, an appreciation for the planet, and how to love one another. Millie is survived by her nephew, John E. Zaleski and his wife Karen, of Cromwell, and their three children, Jay and Katelyn, also of Cromwell, and Michael of New York City; and two nieces, Margaret Zaleski of Newton, MA and Alice Zaleski of Lenox, MA. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Pitney and Florence Zaleski. She will be dearly missed by all her family, extended family, and friends, especially her best friend and neighbor, Doris Garrigus. The two of them enjoyed their shopping excursions, lunches at Mitchell’s, and Scrabble games. The family would like to thank the nurses and aides at Cromwell Healthcare for the care they gave to Millie during her final months of life, as well as the hospice nurses and volunteers at Masonicare.
