Milan Varichak, 91, a 58 year resident of South Holland, IL passed away peacefully on January 3, 2017. He was born to the late Nicholas Varichak and the late Anica (nee Bozanich) Varichak/Alecksich on September 8, 1925. Milan is survived by his beloved wife, Helen (nee Rudman) of 61 years, and twins, son Paul (Christine) and daughter Susan (Jeff) Morris; 8 loving grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; dearest sister-in-law Elsie Rudman; his loving nieces and nephews, and their families; youngest brother George (Violet) Varichak; Kumovi and special friends. Milan came from a wonderfully generous and gregarious family. Preceded in death are his brothers Eli (late Mary Jane) Varichak; Peter (late Sophie) Varichak; sisters Mildred (late Eli) Uzelac; Violet (late Henry) Meyert; Dorothy Varichak; and beloved brother-in-law Albert Rudman.

Milan was drafted out of high school into WWII in the Army Air Corp. He retired from Amoco Oil Co., Whiting, IN, after 39 years of employment. Many will remember how much he loved talking about Standard Oil during his 32 years of retirement! Milan was a member of the St. Archangel Michael Serbian Church and the Serbian Seniors Club where he enjoyed volunteering with friends at church functions. He was a State of IL Life Member and Master Mason of Grand Lodge of A.F. & A.M., Palace Lodge No. 765. Socializing with his close friends, wonderful neighbors and dear family brought him much happiness. With his wife, Helen, he loved to bowl, dance, travel, play card games and Scrabble, and go to the movies and live plays. Reading Western and Science Fiction books, watching the Cubs and completing crossword puzzles were favorite past times for him.

Milan spent countless hours tinkering at his work bench in his home or garage always repairing something, or coming to the aid of a neighbor or friend in need. He was ever the teacher if you brought him something that was broken, and he would drop everything to help his family members and kids. His patience, skills and talent were the epitome of that phrase ‘Jack of all Trades, Master of None’; a rare breed in today’s world. His children will remember his strength as no other; his strong work ethic; and his simple principles and morals in how he lived. Hundreds of hours of home movies and photos will capture his charming and funny ways forever. Please remember Milan in the special way he was a part of your life.
