Paul Michael Salazar was born on March 10, 1945 to Paul and Carmelita Salazar. His gregarious 76 years with us ended on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.

Mike was preceded in death by his younger brother Donald M. Salazar and the mother of his only daughter Joanne Sanchez (Salazar). His greatest love and commitment was to his daughter Casandra Sisneros, son-in-law Ron Sisneros, his niece Dawn Brown, and his beloved grandson Cisco.

The oldest of six, Mike is survived by his brothers Richard, David, and Frank Salazar and sister Barbara Salazar-Jaynes. Uncle Mike was a favorite to his many nieces and nephews. Mike loved Albuquerque. A graduate of Highland High School and the University of New Mexico, he never missed an opportunity to cheer on the Lobos. After graduating from UNM, Mike enlisted in the army and was on his way to being an infantry officer in the Vietnam War. He returned home to begin a career in mortgage banking and real estate and a life with his high school sweetheart Joanne. He spent a long career in sales and could sell just about anything due to his gift of connecting with people. An avid golfer, Mike spent much time at the Albuquerque Country Club and Arroyo Del Oso playing with friends, nephews, brothers-in-law, and son-in-law.

His gift of generosity and storytelling can be accounted for by many. Later in his life he was known around town as Big Mike and could be found playing Texas Hold Em, helping friends, cheering Cisco on in baseball, and having coffee and breakfast with his friends at Vic’s and Loyola’s.

At the core of Mike’s life was family and friends. Join his family as we celebrate a life well lived. Mike’s Life Celebration will begin with a service on Saturday September 18, 2021 at 10:00 am at Salazar Mortuary.
