Robert Michael “Mickey” Wells, of Morehead, KY was born May 18, 1941, in Cincinnati, OH and passed away February 8, 2021, in ICU at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead.

He was preceded in death by both parents Robert M. Wells and Ethel Lorraine (Bradford) Wells of Manchester, OH.

Mickey married his high school sweetheart, Doris Ann (Chandler) Wells, his devoted wife of 58 years, on September 1, 1962. His surviving children and their spouses were the light in his eyes, Kelly and Shawne Wells of Pikeville, KY and Brock and Shelly (Wells) Walter of Ashland, KY.

Mickey graduated from Manchester High School in Manchester, OH and Morehead State College (University) with an undergraduate degree followed by a graduate degree.  His first job at MSU was the Director of Cooper Hall and the Intramural Director.  Wells later joined the HPER (Health, Physical Education, and Recreation) teaching staff and during his time there became the winningest head coach in MSU Eagles Women’s Basketball Program history.  The recipient of many awards, a couple of his favorite honors were the “Kellogg’s Coach of the Year” and MSU Athletic Hall of Fame.  However, if you asked him his favorite job of all time, Wells would have told you about his grandchildren and something about each one.  He was a marvel to the medical community as he beat cancer and several other illnesses over the last 13 years—years he devoted to fighting for life to know and spend time with his grandchildren.
