Early Sunday morning, August 25th, 2019, Michele Jo Wreggelsworth peacefully took her last breath at the age of 54. Michele was well loved by her friends and family and was a respected member of the Kalamazoo community.
Her life began July 2nd, 1965 in Saginaw, MI, born to her parents Cecil and Marion, who have preceded her in death. Michele is survived by her devoted wife of 20 years, Linda Sophiasworth, her step daughters: Abby (Tony) Sutter, Amy Sobesky, and Julia (Mark) Carey, and her brothers Robert (Darlene) and Patrick (Jane). Michele’s seven grandchildren (Kaleb, Dylan, Zoey, and Maggie Sutter and Kyla, Coralie, and Finnian Carey) will dearly miss their “Grandma Wiggles”.
Michele also leaves behind an extensive and loving group of friends, including the Quilt Womyn of Kalamazoo and members of the Bank Street Farmers Market. Michele served in the US Army from 1983 until her honorable discharge as a Major in 1998. Among her many military accomplishments, Michele was one of the first groundbreaking women to serve in a military combat zone during her deployment at Desert Storm, thus paving the way for equal opportunities for the women who served behind her.
Following her departure from the military, Michele’s career as a Senior Project Manager with Miller Davis in Kalamazoo, has enabled her to oversee the construction of multiple high-profile and award-winning buildings in SouthWest Michigan, including The Radisson Hotel in downtown Kalamazoo, and The Arcus Center for Social Justice at Kalamazoo College. In her personal time, Michele enjoyed woodworking, fabric arts, games of chance, cooking, good bourbon, and relaxing with friends and family. She will be greatly missed by all.
