Michael Vernon Norton passed unexpectedly at home in Melbourne, Florida on September 1, 2021. We find comfort knowing Mike entered fully into the presence of our Lord and Savior. Mike was born on July 25,1962 in South Boston, Virginia. He graduated from Halifax County High School in 1980. He loved and excelled in all sports. He was extremely skilled in football and played starting quarterback, cornerback and kicker.

Following his accomplishment of passing the CPA exam, Mike accepted a job as an Auditor with the Department of Defense for the Defense Contract Audit Agency. He worked for DCAA for twenty years. Mike left DCAA to work for General Dynamics Land Systems-Force Protection in Ladson, SC as their Senior Manager of Government and Financial Compliance. Following the closing of this plant, Mike became the Senior Manager of Governmental Cost and Project Accounts with HDT Global, Inc. in Solon, OH. Yearning to return to the warm weather, palm trees, sand and ocean, Mike pursued his career at Northrup Grumman Aeronautics Systems in Melbourne, FL as Senior Principal Proposal and Cost Estimates Analyst in 2017.

Mike is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jane D. Norton, of Melbourne, FL and his children, Emily Jane Norton, of Winter Springs, FL and Michael Andrew Norton (Andy) of Melbourne, FL. Mike and Jane’s first son, William Vernon Norton (Will) passed away on September 5, 1995. The family finds joy in knowing that Mike and Will celebrated Will’s birthday together this year.

Mike put God first. His Christian example to others blesses all who knew him. Mike was a devoted husband and a dedicated and loving father. He treasured coaching Emily and Andy in basketball, baseball, football and softball. Mike always put others before himself and had a servant’s heart. He was the true definition of humble. We think of Psalm 149.

Mike also loved God with all his heart, soul, mind and strength (Mark 12:30) and he loved his neighbor. He was always helping others, whether it be elderly people at the grocery store with their carts or doing unsolicited good deeds for neighbors and strangers. This world and our family lost a true light on September 1, but we remain blessed by his many gifts and precious memories. We also remain joyful and comforted knowing we are sojourners in this world and Mike is at home with Jesus Christ. We will be together again.

Mike’s favorite charities were Turning Point Ministries and Samaritan’s Purse.
