Michael Ray Eanes died at his home on Dove Lane in Martinsville, Virginia, Friday, January 1, 2010 with his daughters by his side. Mike fought a courageous five year battle with breast cancer and exemplified kindness and compassion toward others throughout his life and illness. Also known as “Possum” Mike leaves many friends and family members to cherish memories of him. \r\r\n \r\r\nMike was born on June 4, 1952 in Martinsville to Christine Young Eanes and the late John Morton Eanes. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Alonza “Buck” Eanes and Annie B. Stokes Eanes, maternal grandparents, Jackson Lee Young and Doris Young Ingram, and his faithful companion, Jake. \r\r\n \r\r\nSurviving in addition to his mother are his twin daughters, Katherine Ann Eanes and Stacey Elizabeth Eanes; two brothers, John David Eanes of Kansas City, Missouri Donald Lee Eanes of Martinsville and one niece, Megan Eanes of Martinsville. \r\r\n \r\r\nMike was a member of Chatham Heights Baptist Church and also attended First Presbyterian Church with his daughters. He graduated from Martinsville High School, continued his education and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Tech. Mike worked for several companies, most recently as the Logistics Manager for CPFilms. He had a love of life and truly enjoyed golfing, volleyball, playing guitar, camping, waterskiing, and fishing. Philpott Lake was a second home to him. \r\r\n \r\r\nDuring his illness, Mike relied on the help of many friends and neighbors.
