Michael Joel “Mike” Jay, 66, of Elkhart, passed away after a battle with ALS on Saturday morning, Oct. 19, 2013, at Elkhart Hospice House.
Mike was born on Jan. 13, 1947, in Abilene, Texas, to the late Clarence and Mary Jo (Kehres) Jay. He married Carol A. Eby on Sept. 23, 1967, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
Carol survives as well as their children, W. Brad (Krista) Jay of Cassopolis, Mich., Jennifer L. Jay, Amy M. Jay, and a niece, Tracy Girten, who is just like a daughter, all of Elkhart, and Matthew R. Jay of South Bend; three loving grandchildren, Christopher Jones, Reagan Jay and Nora Jay; and sisters Phyllis Weaver of Aliso Veijo, Calif., and Patricia Roberts of Soda Springs, Idaho.
Mike worked in and retired from the supply side of the recreational vehicle industry. He was a 1965 graduate of Elkhart High School and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. He also loved woodworking and making birdhouses. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1969. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
