Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Michael Lawrence Saxton, USA (Ret.), 88, of Colonial Heights, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2024, peacefully at his home. Born in Boise, Idaho, on August 28, 1935, he was the son of the late Ervin Lawrence Saxton and Claretta Dollie Saxton. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Darlene H. Saxton, and his son, Michael H. Saxton.
Mike served over 24 dedicated years in the United States Army, having served in the Vietnam War during that period. Throughout his career, LTC Mike worked in various jobs and positions, including an Ordinance Officer, Software Analyst, and other General Staff positions at the Pentagon and in Washington D.C. Among the multiple awards, decorations, and medals he received, he was a proud recipient of the Bronze Star Medal (2OLC) and the Air Metal. In his earlier years, Mike found joy in all things outdoors, especially camping and fishing with his son, Mike. He also loved to read and write in his journal every day, watch westerns on T.V., and was known for always having a cup of coffee in his hands.
He is survived by his daughters, Kristi Dedad and Patricia Egnor (Cliff); grandchildren, Michael Hackley (Brittany), Jennifer Carter (Josh), Kevin Dedad, and Jonathan Hackley (Harley); and great-grandchildren, Mia, Kacey, Ava, Paislee, Angela, Estrella, and Abby.
