Michael K. Acker, 48, of Jacksonville, died early Wednesday, January 2, 2008, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 17, 1959, in Jacksonville, the son of Marlyn and Martha Covey Acker. He married Nancy Schofield on May 4, 1988, in Jacksonville and she survives.

He is also survived by two sons, Benjamin (wife, Sonia) Wild of Jacksonville, and Matthew Acker at home; one granddaughter, Leigha Wild of Jacksonville; one brother and one sister, David (wife, Rhonda) Acker and Christy (husband, Doug) Smith, both of Jacksonville; his step-father, Cecil (wife, Phyllis) Franseen of Jacksonville; one step-brother, Steve Franseen of Colorado; and one step-sister, Anne (husband, Ray) Forby of Carbondale; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Acker was a 1977 graduate of Jacksonville High School and then attended Lincoln Land Community College. He worked twenty-two years for the Illinois Department of Corrections at the Jacksonville Correctional Center. He was a member of Professional Association Diving International (P.A.D.I.) and the Montauk Misfits Fishing Group. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with his family.
