Michael Joel “Mike” Fishburn, 52, of Satsuma, passed from this life on Monday, August 9, 2021, at his home following an extended illness. He was a native of Phillipsburg, NJ, and had lived in Putnam County for the past 26 years coming from Hampton, NJ. Mike had worked in the construction industry for 30 years and had also been a career firefighter/EMT serving for Putnam County EMS and Palatka Fire Department.
He was an active member of the community as a volunteer firefighter in Hampton, NJ, and Riverside Fire Department (acting as chief). He coached a variety of recreational sports including Pop Warner football and Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth Baseball. Mike was a huge supporter of Special Olympics Florida volunteering in both Putnam and Clay counties. He participated as both a coach and a unified partner in multiple sports. One of his proudest moments was representing the Special Olympics Florida as the assistant volleyball coach at Special Olympics USA National Games. He was a member of San Mateo Presbyterian Church and in his leisure time, Mike enjoyed woodworking and watching NASCAR.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Addison and Carole Fishburn.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Rhonda Fishburn of Satsuma, sons, Dane Fishburn (Jessica) of Bethesda, MD and Zachary Fishburn of Satsuma, siblings, Arlys Keuhn (Albert), Denise Fishburn both of Washington, NJ, and Galen Fishburn (Cynthia) of Mariaville, ME, granddaughter, Caden Rayne Fishburn, and beloved fur baby, Sedona.
