Michael Francis Wakefield, 75, of Belleville, IL, born Friday, May 21, 1943 in St. Louis, MO passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2018 at Cedar Ridge Health and Rehab Center in Lebanon, IL. Michael worked at American Steel for 15 years. After 20 loyal years he retired from the O’Fallon Volunteer Fire Department. He served in the United States Army for 4 years. Michael was a member and historian of Villa Hills American Legion and a former arson investigator.
He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Wakefield, nee Phillips; father, Charles Edward Wakefield; and brother, Richard Wakefield. Michael is survived by five children, Sarah (Dustin) LaSelle of Sioux Falls, SD, Cinthia (Daniel) Hohman of McCutchenville, OH, Tania (John) Bercaw of Fostoria, OH, Kimberly (Robert) Martin of Yorkton VA, Deanna Wakefield of Fostoria, OH; mother, Muriel Edna Wakefield (nee Sutton), three siblings, Sandra Wakefield of Mascoutah, IL, Larry Wakefield of Caseyville, IL, Danny Wakefield of St. Clair MO; thirteen grandchildren, Timothy, Ryleigh, Shawn, Jessica, Jason, Jacob, Joanna, Amanda, Krysten, Megan, Rachel, Brandon, Heather; and eleven great-grandchildren.
