Michael Colwell, age 43, of Story City and formerly of Humboldt passed away on Sunday September 5, 2021, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Michael Patrick Colwell, the son of Patrick and Barbara (Dodgen) Colwell, was born on February 27, 1978 in Rota, Spain. Michael graduated from Humboldt High School in 1997. He then enlisted in the Marine Corps and served his country for 8 years, including 2 tours in Iraq. On January 20, 2000, Michael was united in marriage with Amy Rice in Jacksonville, North Carolina. He and his wife then moved to Virginia after his enlistment where Mike worked as a CNC Machinist for ten years before moving back to Iowa. Michael was a member of the Story City American Legion Post #59. He enjoyed fishing, tinkering and working on cars, spending time with his family and friends, especially his sons.
Left to cherish Michael’s memory is his wife of 21 years, Amy of Story City; sons, Christopher and Nicholas of Story City; parents, Patrick and Barbara Colwell of Humboldt; a brother, Joe Colwell and his wife Tracy of Virginia Beach, VA; father and mother-in-law, Russ and Peggy Rice of Dakota City; brothers-in-law Tim (Beth)Rice of Waverly, Iowa; and Cory (Karla) Rice of Bode, Iowa, 4 nieces, 4 nephews, 1 great nephew, and 1 great niece. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
