Michael A. Shafer, 72, of Franklin, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2017. He was born on August 26, 1944, in Clinton, Indiana, to his parents, William and Jeanne (Kracht) Shafer.

He was a project manager in the instrument department at T.V.A. Michael served his country, in the U.S. Navy. He was member of the American Legion Color Guard and of Turning Point Church. Michael volunteered with Interchurch Food Pantry. He enjoyed camping, reading, wood working, dancing and gardening. Michael was also a big IU basketball fan, but actually enjoyed all sports.

Michael is survived by his loving wife, Amy Shafer; three children, Lora Jeanne (Bill) Barker, Michelle (Kent) Byrum and William “Billy” Shafer; five, grandchildren, Britnnie (Scott) Gillespie, Derrek (Elizabeth) Barker, Michael Shafer, Cheyenne Myers and Logan Myers, and three great- grandchildren, Amelia, Jaxson and Zecca.

He was preceded in death, by his parents, William and Jeanne Shafer.
