Merwin H. “Dutch” Treptow of Peekskill, NY passed away on July 25, 2018. He was 89 years old. Mr. Treptow was a Restaurateur and the owner of the Red Shutter Inn in Garrison, NY and a successful businessman until he sold the restaurant in 1981. Prior to purchasing the restaurant, Dutch was a photo Lithographer during his leave from the Navy and after his final discharge he pursued a career with Prudential Insurance as a Salesman, retiring as a staff manager.

He was born on December 4, 1928 in Goshen, NY to Frederick and Ethel Mae Lee Treptow. Dutch joined the Navy in 1945 at the age of 17 as a First Class Petty Officer. He was stationed in Guam.

On January 22, 1949 he married the love of his life Joyce Koman in Montgomery, NY. They were married for 69 years until her passing on April 9, 2018.

Dutch was a life member of the Elks Lodge 744 in Peekskill since 1958, organizing many fundraisers and dinners, he also earned the Elk of the Year award. He was a volunteer fireman since he was in his 20’s, a captain and life member of the Washington Engine Company, he belonged to the Mason Lodge, was an honorary member of the Christopher Columbus Society of Peekskill and a member of the American Legion. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, he enjoyed cooking for the community and spending time with his family and his beloved dogs.

He is survived by a son, Larry (JoAnn) Treptow of Peekskill and two daughters; Barbara (Julio) Montero of Montrose and Phyllis (Fred) Froebrich of Montrose. Also surviving are four grandchildren; Jesse (Anne) Montero, Andrew (Gabriele) Montero, Lindsay and Julie Froebrich. Three great grandsons; Paul, Damon and Andreas. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two brothers, William and Frederick Treptow.
