Mertis Eugene Jones, 96, of O’Fallon, IL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He was born July 8, 1925, in Eldorado, OK. Mertis was a decorated WWII Marine Veteran as well a talented electrical engineer and inventor. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #501 in Liverpool, NY and the United Methodist Church North Syracuse, NY.
Mertis was preceded in death by his parents; Mertis and Georgia Jones (nee Paden), his first wife; Joanne Jones (nee Mayfield), his second wife; Maude Jones, one son; Mertis E. Jones, Jr., 4 brothers and 1 sister; and one grandchild; Steven Jones. Mertis is survived by three children; Patricia Alphonso of San Diego, CA, Valorie Stalcup of Rapid City, ND, and Richard L. (Ericka) Jones of O’Fallon, IL, seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
