Mertie Huber Georg, age 88, of Algona, Iowa died on Friday, July 25, 2014 at Algona Manor Care Center. Mertie Hinders, the daughter of Thomas and Mertie (Pannkuk) Hinders, was born on August 4, 1925 in Woden, Iowa. She graduated from Woden High School in 1942 and attended Hamilton Business College. Mertie was united in marriage with Gerald Huber in August 1948 in Nashua, Iowa.
After Gerald’s death in 1963 Mertie married Ernest Georg in March 1976 in Algona. Mertie had worked at the Titonka Savings Bank, Titonka Elevator, Burt Elevator and worked as the Kossuth County Recorder from 1967-75. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, UMW and the Soroptomist. Mertie enjoyed knitting, music and spending time with her family.
Left to cherish Mertie’s memory is her son Gary Huber and his wife Linda of Burt; two grandsons, Lynn and Lee; two great grandchildren, Luke and Faith; a step-son, Dennis (Geri) Georg of Ft. Collins, CO; a step-grandson, Brenden; and two brothers, Herman (Marian) Hinders of Worthington, MN and Dr. Alvin Hinders of Chimney Rock, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Gerald Huber in 1963 and Ernest Georg in 2006; brothers, Martin, Thomas, Jr., Ben, Ted and Milton Hinders; and a sister, Gertrude.
