Obituary of Meredith A. McArdle

McARDLE, Meredith of Saginaw, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2013 at the age of 77. Adhering to the Winnebago Indian Life Directive, Manapisu: “The Earth, Go, Make it Good.” Meredith will be remembered as a devoted friend, mother, grandmother and wife, who is now at rest after battling multiple myeloma for 15 years. Meredith’s journey impacted many lives and leaves a proud legacy of fortitude, strength and courage. She put others first and was always there to help those in need.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Edward McArdle, Jr. (fiancée, Naomi Rios), Robert (Gina) McArdle, Michael McArdle and Anne (Todd) Gregory; grandchildren, Allyson & Christopher Gregory and Meaghan, J.P. & Keegan McArdle; sister, Beverly (Dave) McMillin; and brother, Tom (Gail) Martin.
Meredith was born in Martinsburg, WV on May 1, 1935 to the late Thomas and Mary (Houston) Martin. She attained a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan and was smiling when the Wolverines won. Meredith met her husband, Edward McArdle in Ann Arbor; they married in 1962 and relocated to Saginaw. Ed, an attorney with Braun Kendrick, preceded her in death in 1989.
A devout proponent of reading, Meredith displayed her passion as co-owner of The Children’s Book Company and longtime READ Association board member and volunteer. A debt of gratitude is extended to longtime friends, Sue Purcell and Mary James, the Antique Warehouse, who she considered to be her extended family, and the compassionate Covenant Oncology staff, led by Dr. Jacob Ninan. In remembrance of Meredith, all are encouraged to read a book to a child and show appreciation for those you meet on life’s trail. The McArdles have been members of the St. Stephen Catholic Church community since 1963.
