Melvin “Ray” Cross, 54, of Niles, MI, and having family members in Huntington County, IN, died Monday, Jan. 25, 2021 at Lakeland Hospital in St Joseph, Michigan following heart surgery.
He was born July 6, 1966, in Decatur, IN to Raymond Milbern and Lavonne E. (Strahm) Cross. His parents preceded him in death.
Mr. Cross graduated in 1984 from Huntington North High School and received a degree from ITT Technical Institute in 1986. He worked 35 years in the Information Technology industry most recently for Technosoft Corporation as a System Engineer. Previous employers included Archway Marketing (South Bend), CTS (Elkhart), Zenith (St. Joe). He had worked at Bechstein’s Grocery while in school before moving to Michigan.
He was an avid Detroit Redwings fan and enjoyed watching all sporting events.
Survivors include three sisters, Berna Mae (Mike) Anderson and Amanda Cross (Brad Ryan), both of Roanoke, Myrna (Tim) Schoeff, of Huntington, fiancé Tina Irwin of Niles, step son Brett (Amy) Scott of Niles and step son Josh (Ashley) Scott of Indianapolis. He is also survived by 2 step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Cross was also preceded in death by his wife, Cindy Olinghouse Cross and a brother, Leland M. Cross
Cremation has taken place.
