Melvin D. Lyngstad, the son of Ruth Bertha (Muellar) and Marvin Lyngstad, was born April 10, 1944 at Edgemont, South Dakota. He departed this life on Monday, September 4, 2017 at the Webster County Community Hospital in Red Cloud at the age of 73 years, 4 months and 24 days.

​Melvin moved with his family as a young boy to the Hastings, Nebraska community where he received his formal education attending the Hastings public schools. Melvin then began his life’s work as a residential and commerical carpenter. He worked in the Hastings, Juniata and Lincoln areas.  Melvin was united in marriage with Twila Hall on May 9, 1964 at Hastings. This union was blessed with four children, Fredrick, Tammy, Cynthia and Jeraline.  In 1979, they moved to Colorado where Melvin continued to work in construction carpentry until he was injured on the job in 1989.  They returned to Nebraska in March of 2005 and in July of 2015 they moved to Red Cloud.

​In his leisure time Melvin enjoyed woodworking. He would create small wooden animals in his work shop and after Twila’s finishing touches, they would be off to the various area craft shows. He also enjoyed watching Westerns on TV and the movies.

​Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Betty Adams and Linda Becht Well.

​Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Twila, of Red Cloud; his children: Fredrick Lyngstand and wife Joy of Grand Junction, Colorado; Tammy Ramirez and husband Tony of Poway, California; Cynthia Roe and husband Andy of Greeley, Colorado and Jeraline Krogman and husband Jason of Red Cloud. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 2 step-great grandchildren; two sisters, Myrtle Haney of Ayr, Nebraska and Lou Ann Bunde and husband Gary of Hastings, Nebraska; a brother, Jerry Lyngstad and wife Monica of Hastings, Nebraska, other relatives and friends.
