Melvin Lovitt, Jr., 72 of Milton, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 20, 2014 in the Perry Point VA Medical Center, Perry Point, MD.

Born in Eureka, NC, on September 2, 1942, he was the son of the late Melvin Lovitt, Sr. and the late Edith (Terrell) Lovitt.  

Melvin served his county in the Army during the Vietnam War as a Staff Sgt.  During his service, he earned numerous medals including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

After the war, he worked as a diesel mechanic and in construction.  

He enjoyed cooking and was a quiet man who loved spending his time with his family.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife: Shirley Lovitt of Milton, DE; his children: Lesia Lovitt,  Kenneth Joynes, Jacqueline Golden, Tamala Wescott, Kimberly Bratten and Tanya Tepe; 19 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
