Details: Melvin A. Velten, 91, died January 16th. at the Lorien Assisted Living in Mt. Airy. Mr. Velten was born Sept. 19, 1921 in Baltimore to the late John H. and Katherine M. Velten. He was a resident of Mt. Airy for 12 years formally of Pasadena. He retired in the mid 80’s after over 30 years of service from Koppers Co. in Balt. He was a Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps during WWII as a Bombardier and Navigator from 1942 to 1946. He was a member of the Glen Burnie United Methodist Church, the United Meth. Men where he served anually with the winter relief program. Mt. Airy Rotary Club and past member of the Lake Shore Rotary Club, and the Salvation Army where he served on the Board of Directors.   He was preceeded in death by his wife of 60 years, E. Ruth Velten, 2 brothers Robert and  John Velten and a sister Katherine Myers. He is survived by a daughter Melanie Johnson and her husband David of Frederick, a sister-in-law Margaret C. Hediger of Lutherville, 3 grandsons D. Ryan Johnson, Sr. and his wife Cindy of Woodbine, Jason C. Johnson and his wife Jennifer of Edgewater, and Nicholas A. Johnson and his wife Melissa of Ellicott City, 6 great grandchildren David, Ryan Jr., Alex, Layne, Catherine and Mabel.
