Thursday, March 7, 2019, Melody Sublette-Peyton ascended to heaven when she passed away at home. Born May 17, 1962, Melody was an Angel on this earth to anyone that knew her as she spent her life-giving loving and acceptance to any person that crossed her path.

Melody grew up in Champaign IL, the daughter of Richard and Doris Sublette and sister of Dawn. Their home was the gathering spot in the neighborhood as Melody loved to host her many friends in games and fellowship. Melody graduated from Central High School and with her family moved to Santa Monica CA in 1982. She met her future husband, the love of her life, Robert Peyton, from Springfield IL which was 70 miles from Champaign IL, on December 26, 1984, in San Diego CA where he had just returned from Sea on duty in the United States Navy. They were married shortly after July 27, 1985. It was love at first sight for them both, and their union which began March 6, 1985, when Robert and Melody first moved into an apartment to begin their journey together, lasted a joyous 34 years plus one day. Melody moved to Spirit Lake in 1989 and was an active member of the community. She was a special needs aide at Spirit Lake Community Schools where she poured her heart into instilling love, confidence, and ambition into children throughout Spirit Lake. She coached kids in the Special Olympics, volunteered frequently, and she mentored Special needs children from first grade through graduation. A member of the United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake, Melody walked her life full of love and zest for the positive side of people. An avid Starbucks person she was honored with a coffee in her name after her passing as all the employees loved her spirit and happiness on a daily basis. Melody loved sports and was a lifelong Chicago Cubs and Bears fan cheering her teams loudly in victory or defeat. There were no losers in Melody’s eyes, and she applied that principle in sports and in life. And if you were one of her 675 Facebook friends, she gave you rays of sunshine and love on an almost daily basis that will be severely missed by all.

Melody was a dedicated and loving mother to her children. She spent time with them, nurturing their dreams and setting an example of how to live life without regret, kindness to your fellow person, and with the purpose of your heart. Melody’s memory will always be cherished by her survivors, Husband Robert, son Warren (Amanda) Peyton of White Bear Lake MN, daughter Moriah (Jimmy) McKenna of Sac City IA, and son Myles Peyton of Spirit Lake IA, Parents Richard & Doris Sublette of Tallahassee FL, her sister Dawn Sublette of Ellsworth WI. And three grandchildren Genevieve McKenna, Connor Peyton, and Keagan Peyton. She was preceded in death by her infant sister April.
