Melinda Marie Lorence, the daughter of Linda (Short) and Terry Lee Selvage, was born August 21, 1972 at Red Cloud, Nebraska. She departed this life on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska at the age of 44 years, 9 months and 2 days.
Melinda grew up in the Red Cloud area and received her formal education attending the Red Cloud schools, graduating with the class of 1992. She continued her education attending Central Community College at Hastings where she earned her Associate’s Degree as a veterinary assistance. Melinda then began her employment with Heritage Care Center in Red Cloud working as a Certified Nursing Assistance. She worked for a period of time with Dr. Carl Guthrie at the Red Cloud Animal Clinic and was also employed with Osborne Industries and the Smith Center nursing home, before returning to Heritage Care Center in Red Cloud. Melinda will be fondly remembered for her compassion and caring concern for others.
She was united in marriage with Darren Lorence on August 19, 1995 at the First United Methodist Church in Red Cloud. This union was blessed with a daughter, Kira, on April 3, 2011. They made their home in Lebanon for many years until later moving to Red Cloud to live. Melinda had a number of interests and hobbies in her leisure time. She possessed a passion for bowling and participated not only on her weeks league’s team, but she also competed in both state and national bowling tournaments. As a youth she participated in 4-H and won numerous awards showing her animals. She was also in FFA, played t-ball as a young girl and later in life she enjoyed scrapbooking.
She was preceded in death by her father, Terry Selvage on June 25, 2016. Left to treasure her memory are her loving husband, Darren Lorence and daughter, Kira, of Red Cloud; mother, Linda Selvage of Lawrence, Nebraska; sister, Christine Selvage of Lincoln, Nebraska; brother, Delbert Selvage and wife, Kristina of Lawrence, Nebraska; other relatives and her many friends.
