Melba Jean Thornton Copley, 79, of Newnan, widow of Jerome Vincent Copley, died Friday, February 9, 2018 at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. Born in Becker, MS, December 10, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Woodrow Wilson and Ruey Dee Fowlkes Thornton.

She retired from Southern Regional Medical Center after twenty-three years of service where she served as Staffing Coordinator. She was an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels of Coweta, Piedmont Newnan Hospital Auxiliary and SummerGrove Community of Newnan. She loved traveling with her closest friend Linda Yandle and never met a stranger making friends through all her travels and volunteering. Mrs. Copley was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church where she was very active and volunteered wherever she was needed.

Survivors include three daughters, Rita Jean Copley of Newnan, Vicki Stephens and husband Michael of Fayetteville and Tracey Copley Fraser and husband Revell of Atlanta; two sons, Stephen Copley and wife Roanne of Windham, NH and David Copley of Methuen, MA; five grandchildren, Vincent Rogers and wife Lauren Claire, Landis Marie Fraser, Kaelee Howanski and husband Joseph, Christine Copley and Andrew Copley; six great-grandchildren; sister, Ouida Jo Thornton of Delray Beach, FL; niece, Emily Rehak and husband Michael; nephew, Joseph Thornton Stacker; and best pup and loving companion Sam.
