Maxine Fortner left this life to spend eternity in heaven with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 29, 2015. Maxine was born October 15, 1930 in Monticello, Arkansas to Simp Lee and Obie Mae Young. She married the love of her life Eugene (Buddy) Fortner on October 10, 1948. They later would move to Hobbs, NM to raise their 6 kids and eventually 11 grandkids and 22 great grandkids.

After moving to Hobbs, Buddy was injured in an accident and Maxine would start to work to help support their family. She worked for Firestone, Clarks, Western Auto, and lastly for World Finance. While at Western Auto and World Finance she would “adopt” countless grandkids that would come to get a piece of candy from Grandma’s desk drawer.

Maxine was Mom or Grandma to everyone she met. They loved her and her them like family. She was the nursery Sunday school teacher to too many kids to count, as she taught the nursery class at Glad Tydings Assembly of God and then Faith Assembly of God church for the last 60 years. Maxine was always a fan of the Hobbs Eagles basketball games. Now she has the best seat in the house to watch her Hobbs Eagles basketball team play. She will still be yelling Go Eagles Go!

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents Simp Lee and Obie Mae Young, two sisters Sue and Reba Young, and the love of her life Buddy Fortner. She is survived by her 6 children: Larry Fortner, Martha Fortner, Jackie Fortner, Rhonda Gregory and husband Tommy, Kerry Fortner and wife Alisha, Barry Fortner. Grandchildren: Christopher Hodges, Amber Hodges, Michelle Turner, Melissa Gutzmer, Zachary Dill, Ashley Guerra, Dallas Fortner, Cassie Fortner-Maxwell, Cammie Penick, Callie Fortner, Nickolas Fortner, and many great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Carolyn Andrews and husband, Harold, Vonnie Arnold and husband, Buddy, and a brother, Lawayne Young and wife Barbara.
