Maxine Bertha Floerke Rosenthal Kyles, 89, Beatrice died Friday, January 27, 2017 at Bryan Medical Center East. She was born September 1, 1927 at home on the farm near Cook, NE. Maxine the daughter of Edwin and Edna (Damme) Floerke, was baptized October 16, 1927 at home by the Reverend J. Abele and confirmed March 29, 1942 at Osage Church near Cook, NE. She attended Cook High School at a time when many young women did not go to high school, graduating in 1945. On January 27, 1946, she married Landis Rosenthal and they had 5 children: Dennis Lee, Leon Glen, Janet Faye, Joyce Ann, and Mark Allen. Landis and Maxine lived on a farm outside of Cook after they married. They moved to a farm outside of Nebraska City and then into Nebraska City. Maxine worked at the American Meter Plant in Nebraska City. The family moved to Beatrice in 1960. Maxine went to work at the Lutheran Hospital in Beatrice, which is where she became interested in nursing. She then went to work at Beatrice State Home.
In 1969 Maxine was accepted into LPN school and moved to Lincoln. After graduation in 1970, Maxine returned to Beatrice and continued working at the Beatrice State Home. She worked as a nurse and later as an instructor to new employees. She also had jobs at Maxine’s Restaurant and at Beatrice Supermarket where she met Ben Kyles. They were married at St. Paul Lutheran church June 5, 1982. Their life together was a blessing to Maxine with some traveling and fun family times. Ben passed away in 1989. Maxine loved her Lord and faithfully attended St. Paul’s Lutheran church until she could no longer attend in the last year. She belonged to the LWML and served in many positions. Her work in the church continued with various committees, especially the evangelism committee. She volunteered at St. Paul’s Lutheran school, where all five of her children attended. She loved the school and knew the importance of a solid Christian education.
Maxine travelled extensively after retirement in 1990, going to Israel, Egypt, Germany, and various other countries. Those were enjoyable times for her. She traveled with friends or even alone. Her children were blessed to have her and enjoyed many family times together. The family was bound by her love and her faith in God.
She is survived by her children, Dennis (Sallie) Rosenthal, Leon (Terri) Rosenthal, Janet (Jack)
Ramm, Joyce (Stanley) Nelson, and Mark Rosenthal. She has 14 grandchildren and 14 greatgrandchildren; a sister, Marilyn Mannschreck; sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Rosenthal) Klein, Peggy Rosenthal, Ruth Floerke; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Landis; Ben; a brother, Glen; and several cousins and sisters-in-law.
