During her senior year in high school she was a forward on the basketball team and played in the State Tournament. At the tournament that year she won the State Free Throw Championship, Making twenty out of twenty-five free throw shots. She was awarded the Henry HasBrouk Trophy for this victory. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and never missed a game on t.v. Everyone knew not to call her while the game was on as she would not be interrupted by the phone. Maxine also enjoyed dancing, country music, gardening, playing cards, and reading. After the children were all gone from home she took up golf and excelled at that game also. She carded a “hole-in-one” in 1987, won the ladies Senior Tournament in 1986 and she was a medalist in accomplishments in tournaments through the years.
