Maurine Mae Horstmeier, 93 of Monroe formerly of Davis area died Saturday September 19, 2009 at Monroe Clinic Hospital. Born January 10, 1916 in Rock Grove Township on the Felts farm five miles north of Davis on Walnut Grove Rd. she was the daughter of Fred and Adah (Felts) Wise.
She went to Walnut Grove grade school and graduated from Freeport High School in 1933 and Brown’s Business College in 1935. She and Kenneth W. Horstmeier were married June 2, 1937 at the former Calvary E.U.B. Church in Davis. Her employment included the former Freeport Baking Co., eight years as bookkeeper for her son Gaylan at the Horstmeier Building Supply in Rock City. She and her husband also farmed in Rock City and Davis areas for many years.
She was an active member of the former Calvary E.U.B. Ambassador Class, a kindergarten teacher for many years before the church was closed in the late 60’s. She enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes, vegetable and flower gardening, sending “special occasion” cards and writing letters, knitting, crocheting and many other crafts.
Surviving are her husband of Monroe, son Carlyle (Bette) Horstmeier of Rochester, MN; three grandsons Ray Horstmeier of Rock City, Chad Horstmeier of Pecatonica, Darren Horstmeier of Tucson, AZ; one great grandson Noah Horstmeier; daughter-in-law Sandra Horstmeier Groezinger of Shannon; one niece Sylvia Iserman of Warren; one nephew Richard (Jeanne) Fiene of Davis; four great nieces, three great nephews, ten great great nieces, six great great nephews, three great great great nieces and one great great great nephew. She is preceded in death by her parents and son Gaylan.
