Mr. Maurice Howard Sherrill, 76, passed away peacefully at Hospice of Iredell, having committed his life to our Heavenly Father when he was a child.

Maurice was born on December 14, 1939 in Iredell County to the late Howard and Elizabeth Sherrill. He attended Troutman High School and graduated in 1957. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy for four years on the USS Saratoga-CVA 60 where he worked in the fire control unit.

He was employed by Ethan Allen Furniture Company in Maiden for 25 years where he was a Senior Systems Analyst.

Maurice is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Jane Ireland Sherrill; two sons, Klaus Wustrow and David Sherrill; daughter, Beth Sherrill; and grandchildren, Killian Wustrow and Karleigh Sherrill. He is also survived by his sister, Norman Jean (husband Bill) and three brothers, Coite (wife Mary Ann), Hal (wife Lougenia) and Danny (wife Denise).

Maurice was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Statesville where he served as a Sunday School teacher and deacon for several years. He was also active on various committees where he worked on several church projects. He enjoyed serving as a member of the Beulah Baptist Church Choir. Maurice was an active member of the Baptist Men’s Brotherhood who organized many outreach opportunities to help those within his community.

Maurice was Past Master of the Campbell Lodge in Troutman. He was also past District Deputy Grand Master of the 30th District of North Carolina.

He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, fishing and hunting with friends and family.
